Wildlife Crime Awareness WeekThis week is Wildlife Crime Awareness week.

Poaching and hare coursing are two criminal activities which are of particular concern to Gamekeepers, landowners and farmers across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Poaching is one of the UK Wildlife Crime priorities.

As part of police efforts in Hampshire to combat Wildlife Crime and in particular poaching and hare coursing, last weekend Country Watch officers conducted an operation assisted by local gamekeepers in the Fordingbridge area. The intention was to intercept, disrupt and prevent illegal poaching and hare coursing activities. During this operation a number of vehicles and persons were stop checked by officers, this resulted in one arrest being made. There are further similar operations currently being planned for other areas in the County over the next few weeks.

If you spot any suspicious activity in fields, including people using lamps or driving across fields with lurcher type dogs please contact Hampshire Police on 101 and report it.
