Tony Gifford has always been a keen racing cyclist and in 2016, gave up his job to launch Velosport Coaching. The new company offers training plans for cyclists who wish to improve their fitness and skills. Having completed a coaching course with the Association of British Cycling Coaches, Tony is qualified to guide cyclists through their training and offer advice to his clients.

Harroway ward members Councillor Karen Hamilton and Councillor Carl Borg-Neal presented Tony with a £750 Business Incentive Grant at his home in Andover. Harroway ward member, Councillor Hamilton, said: “Tony is clearly very passionate about cycling and has won many prestigious races. He is incredibly motivated and genuinely wants to help people to achieve their fitness goals. His experience is vast and I have no doubt that his determination will make the business a huge success.”

Tony added: “Cycling is a longstanding hobby of mine so I’m really pleased that I’ve been able to turn a passion into a career. My thanks go to Test Valley Borough Council for the Business Incentive Grant and for supporting me during an exciting but daunting career change!”

The Council’s £750 Business Incentive Grants are available to anyone looking to set up their own business in Test Valley. Budding entrepreneurs should apply for the grant before they start their company and if it is still going strong six months later, they will receive the cheque.
