Councillor Seán D T Woodward, Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Environment at Hampshire County Council, made the decision yesterday to go ahead with the proposed cycleway on the Weyhill Road.

Campaigner and Weyhill Road resident, Alan Turner said of the decision; “Shame on him and all those who wanted this to happen at any cost. I have just returned from Berlin and the Cyclists there probably outnumber the Drivers because they have got it right by having dedicated Cycleways, each side of the Road across the City.”

The Weyhill Road cycleway will mean that pedestrians and cyclists will share the same footpath, without clear lanes for both, however these footpaths will be widened, eating into the grass verges on this busy route into Andover town.

Feelings are running high amongst the residents and businesses on the Weyhill Road, who are concerned that the decision will have a detrimental effect on the area.

The proposed costings of the work has not yet been disclosed because of the legal tendering process.

Andover & Villages will continue to update Andover residents with information as it comes in.
