Education News | Weekly Open Mornings at Local College | Andover & VillagesEVERY Thursday is Open Morning at the South Wiltshire UTC.

The University Technology College is encouraging students to come in and see what they have to offer.

Taking place at the state-of-the-art building in Wilton Road the event will allow students, parents and guardians the opportunity to take a look at the facilities, speak to tutors, visit classrooms and meet the new Principal, Joe Mulligan.

“These regular open mornings will help to ensure that parents and young people know what we offer, and that they may change school at 14, if that’s right for them,” said Principal, Joe Mulligan.

“Progression into specialist areas from UTCs is excellent, whether directly into employment or continuing education at either college or university,” he continued.

The UTC has strong links with many local employers, including QinetiQ, who are based at Boscombe Down.

“The young people who come out of this UTC are first rate,” said Doug Gale, Director Strategic Engagement (Air).

Five Rivers Environmental Contracting based near Salisbury agreed and recently tweeted. “We were so impressed with the students when we worked with them earlier this month. Terrific facilities too.”

Principal, Joe Mulligan, emphasised that the support they get from the employers is fantastic. “They can’t do enough for us,” he said. “They support us in the curriculum, industry projects, employability skills and mock interviews, as well as offering our students work experience and apprenticeships.”

The first open morning falls in the middle of National Apprenticeship Week 2017.

Co-ordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service it’s designed to celebrate apprenticeships and traineeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
