The Top 50 Gastro Pub Awards are now in their seventh year and have established themselves as the leading event for the premium end of the UK food-led pub trade and are based on the results of a poll of top experts.
Two Michelin-starred chef, Tom Kerridge hosted the ceremony today (Monday, 26 January) at Anglian Country Inns’ Hermitage Road Bar & Kitchen in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.
Kerridge said: “It’s a huge honour to be asked to present the Budweiser Budvar Top 50 Gastropub Awards. This industry voting event is going from strength to strength and is a sign of the huge interest in British pubs, of which I’m proud to be a part of. I cannot wait to see how takes the number one spot this year. Good luck to everybody, long live the pub!”
Local pubs, The Plough Inn in Longparish and The Greyhound on The Test in Stockbridge had both been nominated and attended the Hertfordshire ceremony.
The Greyhound were awarded a fantastic 26th position on the coveted Gastro Pub list. Open under new management since March 2013, this is a great recognition of the work by the whole team under the experienced hand of owner Lucy Townsend.
The Plough in Longparish were thrilled to be awarded the 4th Best Gastro Pub in the UK in the 2015 awards.
The Plough were the highest climbers in this year’s competition after coming in at position 29 in 2014. Today’s award is another in a long list of accolades for this popular local eatery that has seen resident chef James Durrant feature in National press and television shows.
