Amesbury burglary

Three people were arrested today, 21st June 2019, in early hours, after officers and drones responded to a burglary reported at roughly 4.00am.

Officers found a Fiat that was linked to burglaries, abandoned in a field.

The special police dog unit was called to the scene and found the man and was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The man is in custody in Melksham Police Station

A short time later, officers identified a second vehicle, a Volkswagen Sharan, found trapped on top of a barrier at the exit of a nearby farm.

At the same time, two men in black clothing were seen running across the A303 near to Solstice Park.

Officers contained the field adjacent to Home Bargains and one man made himself known to officers.

He was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The other man went to ground and containment was placed on the field while a drone was deployed.

It detected a heat source and the dog unit was directed to the site, where the suspect was found hiding.

He was also arrested.

The three people, aged 16, 43 and 47, all from the Hampshire area, remain in custody in Melksham for further questioning.

The two vehicles have been seized for additional enquiries to be carried out.

The VW Sharan was found to contain gloves, wire cutters, metal piping and a generator.

Sgt Tom Ellerby said: “This was an excellent example of team work by officers from across the force who happened to be available in the area due to the summer solstice operation.

“It shows how effective our specialist assets such as the dog unit and the drone can be. Without them we would really have struggled.

“Both vehicles have been seized, three suspects were arrested within the hour, and the property seems to have been all recovered at this stage.”
