Test Valley Borough Council and Solent Education Business Partnership will host a conference to forge stronger links between employers and local schools and colleges. The event, Tackling the Global Talent Shortage, will be held on Wednesday, 25 March 2015 at The Lights, Andover, from 8.30am to 1pm.
The conference will encourage leaders in Andover businesses and educational establishments to increase the range of work-related opportunities and work experience available to students. Speakers will seek to address ways in which working together can tackle a shortage of young people progressing into higher level careers where skill shortages are already identified, particularly in IT, engineering and sciences.
Economic Portfolio Holder, Councillor Peter Giddings, said: “There are so many options available to young people when they leave school, college or university so it is incredibly important for us to work together to ensure that students are well informed of their options. Work placements, apprenticeships and other similar schemes provide a wealth of benefits to students and employers alike, and this conference will be a great opportunity for professionals from a range of backgrounds to share their experiences.”
