Chairman of Kingsclere Village Club for the last 20 years, Peter Woodman, has finally said goodbye at a farewell tea party held at the club recently.
The event was attended by a large group of villagers who have helped restore the building and bring it back into full community life. Everyone was keen to thank Peter for all his work over the years.
Speaking of the early days Peter said,” In 1994 the building was in parlous state – filthy, decrepit and with many repairs needed. There were also financial problems. With help from a willing team of volunteers we cleaned and repainted it and made running repairs. That brought people back and we started activities which fill the club today.”
Paying tribute to Action Hants for all the help and support they give to village halls Peter said,” Without their support and information on funding sources and other key matters we would never have been able to turn the village club into the thriving institution it is today.”
Peter was presented with a painting of the village club by Kingsclere artist Amanda Bates and it will join his collection of memento paintings and drawings.
