One of Andover’s largest employers, Simplyhealth, is helping more people in the town develop their career with the launch of an apprenticeship programme.

The company, which has offices in Andover and Winchester, aims to support people to enter the workforce or develop their career at Simplyhealth with the introduction of its new initiative. The business currently supports 11 of its colleagues with apprenticeship roles ranging from IT, management, customer services and finance.

The apprenticeship programme is part of its #FindYourFuture campaign along with sponsoring Andover Train Station, which aims to support the local job market.

As well helping jobseekers and workers in the town, Simplyhealth supports a number of charitable organisations that help people get the healthcare support they need. The company, which aims to help improve people’s access to healthcare, has funded a pilot social prescription service in partnership with Unity across five GP practices in Andover. The project enables GPs to refer patients to a Unity social prescribing coordinator so they can access non-clinical support services. For example, if a patient is feeling isolated or lonely, they can be referred to a coordinator who can suggest community groups and activities such as coffee mornings, exercise classes, choga (chair yoga), knit and natter groups and walking groups.

The project aims to help reduce the pressure on health services and empower patients with social, emotional or practical needs to look for ways to improve their own health within their community.

Simplyhealth is also supporting Andover Cycle Festival and Andover Carnival, both taking place next month.

Sarah Greenaway, Head of Community Impact at Simplyhealth, said: “Andover is a great place to work and around 700 of our colleagues work here with many of them living locally too. We know that thriving communities make a great place to live and so we are committed to supporting colleagues, our customers and the wider community.”
