Harrow Way has been inspiring high achieving students with a recent visit to the University of Oxford. The Year 8 ‘Allstars’ visited the top university as part of the school’s initiative to raise students’ aspirations and prepare them for a successful future.
Inspiring particularly able students is high on the agenda at Harrow Way. Their High Achievers Allstars programme is designed to challenge and stretch intellect while encouraging and motivating students to aspire to higher levels of study and ambitious careers.
While at the university, the students were given an in-depth tour of several colleges from an Oxford History undergraduate who provided some useful inside information into the application process, realities of studying at the university and the social side of life. Students were hugely impressed by the University’s fantastic buildings, facilities, stories of famous alumni and getting to see where a number of Harry Potter scenes were filmed.
Lawrie Carter, Head of Year 8 said: “There is something incredibly special about the University of Oxford and all our students realised and appreciated what an honour and opportunity it was for them to visit this famous and historic university. The purpose of the trip though is to demonstrate to these students that they absolutely have the ability to attend somewhere such as Oxford and to encourage them to work hard in order to realise this ambition. We have high expectations for all our students and want the very best for them and the school’s Allstars programme informs, educates and inspires students to achieve this.”
Mr Carter will continue to work and mentor his Allstars over the next three years to ensure they reach their full potential.
