Andover’s impressive sporting achievements will be recognised and celebrated at an awards ceremony at Andover Leisure Centre in November.

This year has seen a record number of nominations for the fourth annual Andover and District Sports Awards which are to be held on Saturday 14th November.

The 12 awards include: Team of the year, Junior Disability of the year, Junior Sportsperson, Junior Team of the year, Lifetime Contribution, Outstanding Personal Achievement, School Team of the year, Sportsperson of the year, Veteran Sportsperson and the Valley Leisure Special Recognition Award. There will also the chance to reward coaches and volunteers.

The nominations showcase a wide range of achievements and sporting skills from people of all ages. One of the nominees is Peter Symonds student, Connor Gorshuch who is a contender for Sportsperson of the year.

At 18 years old, Connor is a serious contender as a future Olympian in his chosen sport – shooting. He has recently found success in Italy winning bronze for Great Britain at the International Shooting Sports Federation’s World Championships. He has also beaten more than 100 other competitors to win a World Championship Challenge Cup.

Other nominees include marshal arts expert Gordon Mitchell of the Fighting Falcons who is nominated for Veteran Sportsperson of the year and Smannell and Enham Church of England School for their achievements in rugby and football.

The primary school may be small but they are certainly big on their sport, having recently won the Fair play award at Andover Rugby Club and having just become runners up in the Hampshire Small School Football Tournament finals in Southampton.

“The level of skill and sporting achievement that this town has is outstanding and it’s brilliant that we can hold an awards ceremony to celebrate and recognise those that have been nominated.”

The awards have been kindly sponsored by; Andover Patio Centre, Simply Health, Control Techniques Dynamics, JB Motors, JPD Property Services and The Breeze Andover. Winners will be announced on the night.
