The Prime Minister, David Cameron, in an exclusive quote to Andover and Villages, has paid tribute to outgoing MP and Chief Whip, Sir George Young.

As announced earlier this week, Sir George confirmed to a meeting of the North West Hampshire Conservative Association that he will retire at the end of the current parliament, in 2015, after 4 decades of public service.

The Prime Minister, while travelling back from a trade trip to China, said:

Sir George has given exceptional service to the Conservative Party and to the country over nearly forty years in the House of Commons. He is one of the few people to have served as a minister in the 70s, 80 and 90s and is still doing a great job today as chief whip. I will be very sorry to see him go but wish him all the best for a long and happy retirement.
