Travellers in Andover

A set of travellers arrived in Andover less than a week ago with their first ‘appearance’ seemingly one that represented a ‘We Don’t Care’ attitude. Their arrival to the Charlton playing field saw them ‘ripping open’ a gate with 30 or so caravans, vans and cars parading in, running over a child’s toy who was playing football some yards away with his Dad and brother.
Later that day, the travellers moved on into the Andover Town Centre and set up camp in the car park near to Sainsburys by St Mary’s Church. Locals report much mess and jeering comments as they walked past. The police were able to move the travellers on by the evening of 13th August 2013 but they merely moved to another Andover location at Picket Twenty, seemingly blocking the pathway to Micheldever Road, locals again report feeling intimidated by their presence.

11th August 2013 – Travellers first appear at Charlton playing fields next to the BMX track, seemingly bursting threw the gates and tearing into the field.
11th August 2013 PM – The travellers move on to the car park near Sainsburys and set up camp. Local reports of jeering at passers by.
13th August 2013 – Police move the travellers on who leave behind them dog mess and litter.
13th August 2013 PM – Travellers appear on the path to Micheldever Road at Picket Twenty, locals are intimated to the point of not wishing to walk past.

Green Flag Award for Rooksbury Mill Nature Reserve in Andover
ROOKSBURY Mill nature reserve on the southern outskirts of Andover is one of the best green spaces in the country according to environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.
The park is among a recordbreaking 1,447 green spaces that received a prestigious Green Flag Award from Keep Britain Tidy.
The awards recognise the best parks and green spaces across the country.
A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to visitors that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.
This is the fifth consecutive year the nature reserve has received the award.
The record number of awards across the country means more people than ever before will have access to well-managed, quality green space, which is vital to people’s health and wellbeing.
Councillor Tony Ward, portfolio holder for community and leisure, said: “One of our corporate aims is to enhance and preserve our natural and built environment and this award is recognition of the hard work invested in achieving that goal. Test Valley is a stunning place to live and work and I am incredibly proud of the quality of our parks and open spaces.”

Indigo Wolf – Originals Band
Indigo Wolf are an original Rock band, with their roots planted firmly in the Classic Rock era.
Our inspiration for our sound comes from the legends of the 70s and early 80s, such as Black Sabbath, Dr Feelgood, Motorhead etc.
We have a distinctly tongue in cheek attitude to our song writing, with our lyrics reflecting our slightly daft sense of humour.
Our current line up of Rob on Bass and Vocals, Mark on Guitars and Vocals and Terry on Drums have been together since August 2011 and have played a succession of gigs around Hampshire, as well as venturing as far afield as Surrey, Oxfordshire, Devon and Wales.
We are always looking for new and exciting places to play and are at the moment trying to put together a series of dates for November and December.

Statement From Gary Gillies – Director LAB Computing
{jcomments on}Andover & Villages have been able to speak to Gary Gillies, Director of LAB Computing which is at the heart of the Andover Rumour mill today.
The LAB computing shop has been closed for some days and it was rumoured that the shop had closed.
Andover & Villages can reveal exclusively that all is well at LAB computing and Director Gary says:
“The shop will stay open and business will go back to normal.
I just needed to close the shop and not take on more work and once we have caught up we will get things back to normal.
An ex-employee has left us in trouble, but hoping to work hard and fix all the issues.
