Police are looking for a driver of a Jaguar XJ they believe was involved with the hit-and-run collision on Charlton Road that resulted in a 38-year-old being pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Andover’s Mooch Retains its Christmas Window Crown

Andover’s favourite independent gift and accessories shop, Mooch have taken the Christmas crown for the best Christmas Window Display in Andover Town Centre.

Mooch is owned by Georgina Roberts who with her amazing assistants Vicky and Emma, worked tirelessly to make the window an amazing festive display.

Winning a carvery meal for four with a bottle of wine at the White Hart in Andover, the Mooch team will get to relax and have some fun after all their hard work.

Shoppers across Andover loved the shop so much, they voted overwhelmingly that the Mooch Christmas Window was the best.

The results were announced on 23rd December after the competition voting closed on 19th December 2019.

In second place were Gallaghers Florist and in third place was Jim’s Barbers.

Andover town centre’s Christmas window competition has been run in Andover for some years now, this year it was organised and run by Andover BID.

Well done to all of the winners!

Steve Godwin, BID manager said, “The lead up to Christmas is a really important time for retailers, and this competition has brought some Christmas sparkle and highlighted the many wonderful businesses that we have in the town.

“The competition proved to be so popular that the BID has decided to run others next year, probably starting with Valentine’s day in February.”

Police launch investigation into Charlton Road fatal hit-and-run

Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal fail-to-stop collision in Andover last night (December 23).

An investigation has been launched after a 38-year-old man was struck by a car in Charlton Road around 6.40pm Monday evening.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man, from Andover, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Officers are now carrying out enquiries to find the driver of the vehicle believed to be involved.

Police are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or who has a dashcam and may have captured the moments leading up to the incident.

Inspector Steve Wakeford, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “This is a very serious incident and we urgently need to speak with the driver involved.

“We have recovered vehicle debris from the scene and our investigations are underway. I would urge the driver to contact us as soon as possible.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who was in Charlton Road and can assist us with our enquiries.”

Charlton Road closed off as ‘Body seen in road’

Unconfirmed reports have come in regarding an incident in Charlton Road in Andover.

Local reports suggest that a body has been found near the ambulance station on the busy central Andover road.

The area has been cordoned off by police and is not expected to reopen until at least late morning tomorrow (24th December)

Ambulance service are in attendance along with police support.

A303 Eastbound Carriageway Chaos

A vehicle has crashed into the central reservation on the eastbound carriageway of the A303 at Popham.

The single-car crash has seen the car crash fully into the central reservation, with traffic already backing up on the eastbound carriageway.

Emergency services are on the scene, but in order to recover the vehicle, it is thought that the road will have to close temporarily.

Drivers are advised to take an alternative route.


Shaun Dyson pleaded guilty to murder of wife Lucy Rushton

A man has pleaded guilty to the murder of Lucy-Anne Rushton.

Shaun Peter Dyson, 28, of Bury Hill Close, Anna Valley, changed his plea to one of guilty of Lucy-Anne’s murder, on Wednesday 18 December, during his trial at Winchester Crown Court.

He is due to be sentenced at the same court on Friday 20 December.

The court heard officers were called to a house in Suffolk Road, Andover, in the early hours of Sunday 23 June.

Lucy-Anne, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene, having sustained multiple blunt force injuries.

18-year-old from Andover charged with Basingstoke robbery

An 18-year-old male from Andover will appear in Basingstoke Magistrates Court on January 14, he has been charged with robbery.

Ardurel Jamzaj of Junction Road, Andover, has been charged with stealing cash and cigarettes from a man in his 20s in Basingstoke, the robbery occurred on September 28th.

He has also been charged with using threatening words or behaviour towards the same victim.

Four men arrested following police investigation

Four people have been arrested today as part of an investigation into a series of burglaries in north Hampshire.

Officers executed a warrant at an address at Carousel Park in Micheldever this morning (Tuesday 17 December).

Six caravans have been seized, and safes and jewellery, suspected to have been stolen, have been recovered.

Four men have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a burglary dwelling with intent to steal.

They are:

• A 26-year-old man from Southampton

• A 35-year-old man from Micheldever

• A 56-year-old man from Micheldever

• A 30-year-old man from Micheldever

All are currently in police custody. Enquiries are ongoing.

Detectives from Hampshire Constabulary’s Operation Hawk team are investigating more than 50 house burglaries that have taken place since the start of September this year.

Cash and jewellery, and in some cases vehicles, were stolen during the burglaries.

The majority of offences have taken place in the north of the county, in towns such as Andover, Basingstoke and Winchester.
