christmas pharmacy

christmas pharmacyWith the Christmas countdown firmly under way, GPs are advising patients to ensure they don’t go short of vital medicines over the festive season.

They have urged people who need repeat prescriptions to order them in good time before the holiday rush begins.

Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year, with bank holidays on Monday 26, Tuesday 27 and then a week later on Monday 2 January, 2017.

Many GP practices and pharmacies will have limited opening hours during the Christmas period, so people are being encouraged to start ordering now – especially as the NHS comes under extra pressure every year to help those who have left orders to the last minute, and end up in a panic.

Dr David Chilvers, GP and Chair of the Governing Body of Fareham and Gosport Clinical Commissioning Group said: “Please check your medicine supplies and make sure you have enough to last through the holidays.

“Unfortunately, there will still be those who run out of medicine or leave orders until the last minute, which puts immense pressure on staff that are already working incredibly hard to care for people. Help us to help you – check your supplies and plan ahead.”

Dr Chilvers added “Please do remember that many pharmacies will still be open during the bank holiday, although perhaps with reduced hours. They can help with a number of minor injuries and illnesses and are a great first option if you’re feeling under the weather – but be sure to check their opening hours before you visit. NHS 111 will also still be available to assist you.

Please be aware that Pharmacy opening times may differ over the festive period.
