Following on from yesterday’s story on Andover & Villages, Test Valley Borough Council have released a statement about the situation that has arisen between themselves and Andover Town Council and the Christmas Lights Switch On.
The two councils clashed over an earlier statement released from TVBC, that said, “This year the loss of Andover Town Council as one of the key sponsors of the Switch On festivities has led to Test Valley Borough Council having to look at new ways to bridge the funding gap to ensure that the biggest show in the Andover calendar goes on.”
Attempting to calm the situation, TVBC have today said, “The article focuses on the fact that local businesses have rallied round to sponsor the Christmas Lights Switch on event to ensure that the event can continue. This is important as it is one of the largest community gatherings of the year to take place in the town, and is a good news story for business owners and the local community.
“The information in the release is factually correct in referring to the loss of sponsorship for the event. It also refers to the Town Council’s continued funding for the Christmas lights, as well as the Chantry Centre funding the fireworks.”
Andover Town Council were unavailable for comment.
The Christmas Lights Switch on takes place on Friday 21st November 2014 in the Andover High Street.
