Parents are being warned of a new Snapchat bullying game dubbed ‘Letter X’.
‘Letter X’ involves people sending insulting comments about each other in chat groups.
One child will pick a victim and ask the others to send them an ‘X’, then reply with a child’s name. Everyone in the group is then asked to send messages containing nasty insults about the child’s appearance, personality, intelligence, weight etc. The aim of the game is to come up with the worst possible insults about the victim.
Sadly, short of making your children delete the app, there is little that can be done to protect children against this growing craze. The advice to parents is to tell your children you have heard about the game and ask them to stay away from Snapchat until the craze blows over.
The Samaritans have said if anyone would like to speak to someone about any of these issues they can be contacted 24 hours a day on 116 123.
