We were honoured to welcome a visit from Dame Lucy Neville-Rolfe, Under-Secretary of State in the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills and Minister for Intellectual Property and a life peer of the House of Lords.
She talked to the G&T students from Year 7, 8, 9 and explained that her work involves issues surrounding business in the European Union, the creative industries and intellectual property protection. It’s all about helping Britain be as creative and innovative as it can be! She also deals with a wide range of issues from helping small business to the Future of the BBC.
Students heard about her roles in Parliament and revealed some interesting information about her time working for John Major and more recently David Cameron. Dame Lucy stressed the need for developing a wide range of skills for a successful career in to-day’s market. The main message was that no matter how gifted you are, it is only through hard work, resilience and determination will you get ahead in life and realise your potential.
Her talk was followed by some probing questions from our students about recent Parliamentary events; a parallel could be drawn to an episode of Question Time!
