Although Andover has not had a Mothercare in some time, the Basingstoke store will be a loss to local parents if the administrators cannot save the ailing business.
Over 2500 employees in the Uk may face redundancy if administrators are unable to source a buyer for the popular children’s store.
A spokesperson from Mothercare said, “Mothercare UK is not capable of returning to a level of structural profitability and returns that are sustainable for the group.
“Furthermore, the company is unable to continue to satisfy the ongoing cash needs of Mothercare UK.”
Mothercare UK is being criticised heavily today by retail analyst, Steve Dresser for not adapting to online shopping, comparing it to the recent collapse of Thomas Cook.
Mothercare stores also host sections from Early Learning Centre and Clarks Shoes.
Mothercare stores across the UK will continue to trade normally for the time being.
