Message From The Leader Of Hampshire County Council

As Leader of Hampshire County Council I am pleased to send my Best Wishes for the New Year to all residents of this great county of Hampshire

2016 will no doubt bring its share of good and happy times as well as moments of trouble and difficulty. The County Council, along with other southern counties, is facing a very difficult financial settlement but at least, due to past prudence and efficient management, we can face those difficulties as well placed as any of our neighbours and better than most.

During the past few months of 2015 we, together with the cities of Southampton and Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, were in negotiations with the Government to gain more devolved powers locally, for instance on skills, highways and environment. Early next year we may hear if the Government is as serious about devolving power to the south as it is to Scotland and the North. I wonder.

Come what may we will maintain our resolve to enhance the prosperity and quality of life of Hampshire residents whilst respecting the environment which makes Hampshire such a great place to live.
