The vehicle was seen travelling at speed along the A343 officers originally lost sight of it in Collingbourne.
A police helicopter was deployed and the vehicle while the suspect vehicle was narrowly missing other vehicles.
The vehicle was pursued over the border into Hampshire – in Appleshaw, the driver parked up and hid under a tree.
He was arrested a short time later and further checks were carried out which found he had no insurance and no MOT.
The 23-year-old was sentenced to 12 months and was fined £250, while being disqualified for three years.
PC Jonathan Brunt said: “Godwin led officers on a long pursuit, driving in excess of 80mph in a 30mph area, overtaking vehicles and putting numerous lives at risk. It is incredibly lucky that nobody else was injured. He showed a complete disregard for anyone else’s safety.”
