At approximately 9:30 last night, local residents of Barlows Lane in Andover were woken to a sound similar to fireworks going off, as one of the 80ft trees bordering the bypass fell onto the flats, in The Watermeadows, just off of Rooksbury Mill Park. The sound of the falling tree was loud enough to be heard in neighbouring Anna Valley.

Ambulance and Fire crews were called to the scene, and there have been no reports that anybody was injured in the incident. The flats affected have been cordoned off and, today, residents were subdued as they surveyed the damage.

Nearby, a fallen tree blocks Norman Court Lane and Watery Lane is still closed due to flooding. This means that much of the area is inaccessible, with no diversions in place at this time. It is hoped that the fallen tree will be cleared later today and this was the scene last night before the strongest winds hit.
