Travel News | Local Roadworks for the Week - 5th February 2018 | Andover & VillagesThe following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 2 February 2018 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All Highways improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

The M3 in Surrey and Hampshire reopened as a smart motorway on Monday 31 July. The hard shoulder has been converted to a new fourth traffic lane in each direction on a 13.4 mile section of the motorway between junction 4a for Farnborough and junction 2 for the M25, and cutting-edge technology sets the speed limit to match conditions, helps spot any queuing traffic, incidents or broken down vehicles, and informs drivers about conditions ahead.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: bridge strengthening

Work to maintain journeys by repairing the bridge supports continues this week. Narrow lanes will be in place 24/7 on the roundabout beneath the M3 until March 2018.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: bridge reconstruction

Work to improve journeys by refurbishing the bridge that carries the link roads over the M4 continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place on the slip roads and a 50mph speed limit is in place on the M4 carriageway until March.

In addition, the link from the M4 eastbound carriageway to the A329(M) Wokingham-bound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 7 February with a clearly signed diversion via junction 8/9 and returned.

The link from the M4 westbound carriageway to the A329(M) Reading-bound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 8 February with a clearly signed diversion via junction 11 and returned.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham to 11 Reading, Berkshire: bridge maintenance

Work to improve journeys by replacing the waterproofing material in the bridge which carries the M4 over the River Loddon continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place on the east and westbound carriageways until March.

M4 junctions 12 Theale to 13 Chieveley, West Berkshire: bridge refurbishment

Work to improve journeys by refurbishing a series of bridges that carry the M4 over local roads continues this week. 24 hour narrow lane, 50mph speed limit and overnight lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound carriageways until July.

M4 junctions 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire to 15 Swindon, Wiltshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the westbound carriageway near Baydon continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the westbound carriageway overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 23 March (Monday to Friday only).

M27 junctions 3 to 4 Southampton, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing sections of the east and westbound carriageways continues this week. The M27 eastbound carriageway will be closed from junction 3 to junction 5 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 5 February for 4 weeks (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A3057, A27 and Stoneham Way.

M27 junction 12 Portsmouth, Hampshire: bridge refurbishment

Work to improve journeys by refurbishing a bridge at the junction 12 Paulsgrove Interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on both carriageways of the M27 and A27 between Farlington and Port Solent until April.

The A27/M27 westbound carriageway will be closed from the A2030 Eastern Road junction to M27 junction 12 overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 16 March (Monday to Friday). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Eastern Road (A2030), Havant Road, Southampton Road and the M27 junction 12 link.

In addition, the M27 eastbound carriageway from junction 11 to the A3(M) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 5 February for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A27.

A3 Guildford, Surrey: surveys

Work to undertake surveys and investigations along the A3 at Guildford continues this week. The A3 northbound carriageway will be closed from Compton to the University Interchange at Guildford overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 5 February for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B3000 Puttenham Heath Road, A31 Farnham Road, Guildford Park Road, Madrid Road, The Chase and Egerton Road.

A31 Sturminster Marshall, Dorset: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the A350 Roundhouse Roundabout finishes this week. Temporary traffic lights will be in place at the roundabout overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Thursday 8 February.

A34 Didcot, Oxfordshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the northbound carriageway starts this week. The A34 northbound carriageway will be closed from the A4185 Chilton Interchange to the A4130 Milton Interchange overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 8 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Rowstock.

A34 Kidlington (Oxford), Oxfordshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the A34 southbound carriageway between Gosford and Peartree Hill continues this week. The A34 southbound carriageway from the M40 (junction 9) to the A44 Peartree Interchange will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Monday 19 February (Monday to Friday only).

During the closures the following clearly signed diversions will be in place:

Non-motorway traffic: A41 towards Bicester, Vendee Drive, A4095 through Kirtlington towards Woodstock, A44 Woodstock Road, joining the A34 at A44 Peartree Interchange Motorway permitted traffic: M40 Junction 8a, A40 and Oxford ring-road, either joining the A34 at the A44 Peartree Interchange or A423 Hinksey Hill

A303 Bullington to Popham, Hampshire: drainage and resurfacing

Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the drainage system along the A303 continues this week. The A303 westbound carriageway will be closed from the M3 (junction 8) to the A34 (Bullington Cross) overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 5 February for 6 nights (Monday to Saturday). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M3 and A34.

A404 Burchetts Green (Maidenhead), Berkshire: signage

Work to keep road users informed by maintaining the signage at the Westhorpe Interchange continues this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 6 February with a clearly signed diversion in place via junction 9b of the A404(M).

In addition, the northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 7 February with a clearly signed diversion in place via the Bisham roundabout.

Safety at roadworks

Highways England is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads. For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks:

Keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety.

Get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching.

Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks.

Be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks.

Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front.

Observe all signs – they are there to help you.

And be alert for road workers, the roads are their workplace.
