All Highways improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junction 5 Hook, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the northbound slip road at the junction finishes this week. The northbound exit slip road at junction 5 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Wednesday 21 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 4a.

M3 junctions 5 Hook to 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the M3 near Mapledurwell continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the M3 southbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 23 March (Monday to Friday only).

In addition the M3 southbound carriageway from junction 5 to junction 7 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am on Saturday 24 March. A clearly signed diversion route will in place via the A30 Basingstoke and Winchester Road.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: bridge strengthening

Work to maintain journeys by repairing the bridge supports continues this week. Narrow lanes will be in place 24/7 on the roundabout beneath the M3 until April 2018.

In addition, the southbound exit slip road and eastern side of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until 28 March. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

M3 junctions 8 Basingstoke to 9 Winchester, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing sections on the M3 north and southbound carriageways continues this week. The M3 southbound carriageway will be closed from junction 7 to junction 9 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 6 April (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A33.

M3 junction 13 Eastleigh, Hampshire: traffic signals

Work to improve journeys by replacing the traffic signal poles at junction 13 of the M3 takes place this week. The southbound exit slip road at junction 13 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 22 March for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Chilworth roundabout and return.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: bridge reconstruction

Work to improve journeys by refurbishing the bridge that carries the link roads over the M4 continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place on the slip roads and a 50mph speed limit is in place on the M4 carriageway until March.

In addition, the slip roads from the M4 to the A329(M) in both directions will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 23 March. Clearly signed diversions in place via adjacent junctions.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham to 11 Reading, Berkshire: bridge maintenance

Work to improve journeys by replacing the waterproofing material in the bridge which carries the M4 over the River Loddon continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place on the east and westbound carriageways until March.

In addition, the M4 eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 22 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Lower Earley Way.

M4 junctions 12 Theale to 13 Chieveley, West Berkshire: bridge refurbishment

Work to improve journeys by refurbishing a series of bridges that carry the M4 over local roads continues this week. 24 hour narrow lane, 50mph speed limit and overnight lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound carriageways until July.

In addition the westbound carriageway will be closed overnight from 9pm until 6am on Monday 19 March. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight from 9pm until 6am on Tuesday 20 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4.

M27 junctions 3 to 4 Southampton, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing sections of the east and westbound carriageways continues this week. The eastbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 3 and 4 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 19 March for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A3057, North Baddeley and the A27 through Chilworth.

The eastbound carriageway will then be closed between junctions 2 and 5 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 21 March for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A3090, Romsey, North Baddesley, Chilworth and Stoneham Way.

The eastbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 4 and 5 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Sunday 25 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Eastleigh.

M27 junction 11 Fareham, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the M27 eastbound carriageway near junction 11 continues this week. The M27 eastbound carriageway will be closed from junction 9 to junction 11 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 20 March for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A27.

M27 junction 12 Portsmouth, Hampshire: bridge refurbishment and barrier replacement

Work to improve journeys by replacing old sections of the safety barrier and by refurbishing a bridge at the junction 12 Paulsgrove Interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on both carriageways of the M27 and A27 between Farlington and Port Solent until April.

A3(M) junction 1 to 3 Horndean, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the southbound carriageway finishes this week. The A3(M) southbound carriageway will be closed from junction 1 to junction 3 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 19 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A3 Portsmouth Road and London Road.

A3(M) junctions 3 to 5 Bedhampton, Hampshire: road markings and drainage

Works to improve journeys by renewing the road markings and improve drainage on the A3(M) takes place this week. The northbound entry slip road at junction 5, the exit slip road at junction 4 and the entry slip road at junction 3 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 20 March. Junction 5 entry slip road and junction 4 exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 22 March for 2 nights.

In addition the southbound exit slip road at junction 3 and entry slip road at junction 4 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 21 March.

Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

A404(M) Maidenhead, Berkshire: road markings

Work to improve journeys by renewing road markings along the A404(M) takes place this week. The A404(M) northbound carriageway from Junction 8/9 to junction 9b will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 20 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A308(M) and Bath Road.

In addition the A404 southbound carriageway will be closed overnight from the M40 to Burchetts Green, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 21 March for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Wycombe Road, A4155 to Henley-on-Thames and A4130 Henley Road. A secondary route will be in place from Marlow through Bisham and across the roundabout for those wishing to access the A308 and Bath Road.

The A404(M) southbound carriageway from junction 9b to the M4 junction 8/9 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 23 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Bath Road and A308.

A3 Guildford, Surrey: drainage and traffic signals

Work to improve journeys by upgrading the traffic signals at the Dennis Interchange and to ensure road user safety by maintaining the drainage system along the A3 continues this week. Lane closures will be in place at the Dennis Interchange overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 March,

The A3 southbound carriageway from the Stoke Interchange to the University Interchange will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 23 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Guildford.

The northbound entry slip road at the Burpham Interchange will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 21 March for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Guildford.

A27 Eastern Road, Hampshire: resurfacing

Works to improve journeys by resurfacing a slip road at the Eastern Road roundabout takes place this week. The westbound entry slip road at the A2030 Eastern Road junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 19 March for 3 nights. In addition the eastbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 22 March for 2 nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the A27 and return

A27 Warblington, Hampshire: drainage

Work to improve journeys by maintaining the drainage system at the Warblington junction continues this week. The westbound entry slip road at the A259 Warblington junction and the westbound exit slip at the Langstone junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 19 March for 2 nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

A27 Langstone, Hampshire: signs

Works to keep road users informed by maintaining the signage at the junction takes place this week. The eastbound entry slip road at the Langstone roundabout will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 19 March for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion route will take via the A27 and return.

A31 West Moors to St Leonards, Dorset: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the A31 eastbound carriageway finishes this week. The A31 eastbound and westbound carriageways between West Moors and Boundary Lane overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 19 March, Wednesday 21 March and Friday 23 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Ferndown, Ringwood Road, New Road, the B3073 and the A338 back to Ashley Heath.

A31 Sturminster Marshall, Dorset: signage

Work to improve journeys by maintaining the signage near Sturminster Marshall takes place this week. The A31 eastbound and westbound carriageways between the B3073 Lake Gates roundabout and the A350 Roundhouse roundabout will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 22 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Wimborne Road, Wareham Road and the A350.

A34 Newbury, West Berkshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the northbound carriageway near Chieveley continues this week. The A34 northbound carriageway from A4 Speen junction to Chieveley will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 19 March until Friday 23 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4, Newbury, the B4009 and Priors Court Road.

A34 Didcot, Oxfordshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the northbound and southbound carriageways takes place this week. The A34 northbound and southbound carriageways will be closed between the A4185 Chilton Interchange and the A4130 Milton Interchange overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 19 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Rowstock.

A34 Kidlington (Oxford), Oxfordshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the A34 northbound carriageway continues this week. The A34 northbound carriageway will be closed from the A44 Peartree Interchange to the M40 at junction 9 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Wednesday 28 March (Monday to Friday only).

During the closures clearly signed diversions will be in place as follows:

Non-motorway traffic: leave the A34 at the Peartree Interchange and follow the A44 towards Woodstock, travel north along the A4095 through Enslow and Kirtlington towards Bicester, turn right onto Vendee Drive to access the A41 travelling either north or south depending on the final destination

Motorway permitted traffic: leave the A34 at either the A423 Hinksey Hill or A44 Peartree Interchange, travel around the Oxford ring-road then east along the A40 to join the M40 at junction 8a, travelling either north or south depending on the final destination

A303 Bullington to Popham, Hampshire: drainage

Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the drainage system between the M3 and the A303 continues this week. The A303 westbound carriageway from the M3 to the A34 at Bullington Cross will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 19 March for 4 nights.

In addition the eastbound carriageway from the A34 Bullington Cross to the M3 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Friday 23 March for 6 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A34 and A33.

Safety at roadworks

Highways England is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads. For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks:

Keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety.

Get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching.

Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks.

Be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks.

Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front.

Observe all signs – they are there to help you.

And be alert for road workers, the roads are their workplace.
