Local MP for North West Hampshire, Kit Malthouse has now been named the policing minister for Boris Johnson’s new cabinet weeks after stepping down from the ‘Tory race’

It comes after Priti Patel is appointed as Home Secretary.

Mr Malthouse congratulated Esther McVey on replacing his previous role as Housing Minister.

New appointees included former leadership contender Sajid Javid as chancellor, and leading Brexiteers Dominic Raab and Priti Patel as foreign secretary and home secretary.

Kit Malthouse said in the tweet, “Warm congratulations to my old friend and fellow scouser, and many thanks to the brilliant @MHCLG housing team – #MoreBetterFaster remains the mission.”

Kit Malthouse will take on the responsibility of Mr Johnson’s pledge of recruiting 20,000 extra police officers.
