An A Level computer science student from South Wiltshire UTC has beaten tough competition to secure a place on a prestigious CyberFirst Advanced course this summer.
Seventeen year old Keelan Baines from Andover will be travelling to Edinburgh Napier University in August.
The course is designed to expand the knowledge of anyone studying computer science at AS/A Level, or any student who has a real interest in and aptitude for computers.
Keelan has been interested in cyber security since the Snowdon leaks. “I’m looking forward to learning more about cyber security on the course. I think it will give me a better understanding and lots of experience,” he said.
The residential course will allow students to secure interconnected networks and learn how to probe for vulnerabilities.
“It will be challenging work,” said UTC computer science teacher, Sam Gosling. “But there’s always an expert on hand to teach students fresh skills and techniques. I am very proud of what Keelan has achieved there was a lot of competition for a place.”
