Jo Cox, Labour MP for Batley and Spen in West Yorkshire, was shot and stabbed in an assault in her constituency yesterday (Thursday 17th June 2016), she later died from her injuries.

A 52-year-old man was later arrested nearby.

Andover & Villages spoke to Kit Malthouse, North West Hampshire’s MP, he said, “It is hard to find the words to express the stark horror at the killing of a fellow MP doing her duty. And equally hard to think about the devastation wrought upon her family tonight.

“I did not know Jo Cox well. As fellow cyclists we bumped into each other in the members cloakroom from time to time but she was distinctive. Her diminutive stature coupled with a benign, effervescent energy meant she stood out and will be terribly missed on all sides of the House.

“Our thoughts tonight must be with her husband and with her children who now face a life without their mother.”
