It was all smiles at Andover Leisure Centre recently as the Andover Lions presented respite charity, 3Smiles with a welcome donation of £850.
The Lions Club raised the money over the past six months through a number of activities. These included taking part in the Valley Leisure Community Games, collecting donations from Sainsbury’s shoppers and getting help from the big man in red himself by collecting money over the Christmas period.
3Smiles is a respite club for children with disabilities and additional needs and their siblings, which is run by Valley Leisure at Andover Leisure Centre.
Andover Lion, Rod Wainwright said: “We first came across 3Smiles at the Valley Leisure Community Games last July. Later when thinking of possible good causes to support, 3Smiles were mentioned but nobody knew much about it, so we got in touch and invited Linda Arnold, who helps organise 3Smiles to come and tell us all about it.
“The team were very impressed with what Linda told us, and thought that 3Smiles was a very worthy cause. It was decided there and then to make a donation of £500 from our charity funds raised at a variety of events held previously.
“We also decided to donate some of the funds from our Christmas collection,” he added.
Linda Arnold, sports and activity development manager at Andover Leisure Centre said: “We’re delighted to be supported by the Andover Lions.
“By choosing 3Smiles their generous donation will provide much needed equipment and sponsor a child with disabilities through 12 months of the supported swimming programme.”
