Andover park van

A woman and her dog were nearly mown down by a man in a small white van yesterday. (Saturday 14th September 2019).

The incident took place on the Smannell Road but started outside of the Cricketers Way Tesco Express Shop.

The van mounted the green area on the Roman Way side of the road skidding and crashing into the bunding that has been placed to deter travellers.

The van corrects itself and then hurtles past the park gates narrowly missing a lady walking her dog who ran to get out of the path of the out of control van.

A witness told Andover and Villages, “It all started outside the shop. There was a fight over there and then all of a sudden you just see this guy and the van comes on the grass and he just started skidding around the grass.

“He very nearly hit an older lady and her dog as well!”

Hampshire Police said, “We were called just after 7.00pm reporting a fight involving a group of men outside Tesco Express in Compton Square.

“There were also reports of a white van being stolen which was driven across the playing fields. Officers attended.

There were no reports of any injuries. The van was later recovered. Investigations are ongoing at this time.”
