Harrow Way Pre-School Group rated Outstanding by OfstedHarrow Way Pre-School is officially outstanding according to Ofsted inspectors who visited the school recently. The pre-school was rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas with effectiveness of the leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development, behaviour and welfare and finally outcomes for children all receiving high praise from the inspectors.

Carol Ashurst, Manager said: “We are delighted to have been rated ‘Outstanding’ by the inspectors which is testament to the hard work and commitment of the entire team. Our focus is to provide a safe, nurturing environment for children where they can develop and progress happily, exceptionally well prepared with the skills they need, ready for school.”

The report praised Mrs Ashurst’s leadership and management commenting: ‘the manager skilfully and enthusiastically leads her staff team. She ensures everyone is aware of their role and responsibility to safeguard children, and monitors the quality of teaching and the effectiveness of planning extremely well.”

The quality of teaching was rated outstanding, resulting in all children, including those whose starting points are below expected levels of development, making rapid progress in their learning. The report noted how the well-qualified staff have excellent knowledge of how children learn, providing varied and imaginative experiences that engage and motivate. Children also benefit from the high-quality resources that are used effectively to promote all areas of learning.

Robust security processes are maintained at the pre-school so that children can play in safety. The inspectors commenting on how management follow rigorous recruitment and induction procedures to help ensure staff’s suitability to work with children.

Harrow Way Pre-School’s partnerships with parents, other Early Years’ providers and external professionals were acknowledged as exemplary in the report, making a significant contribution to helping staff meet the needs of all the children.

Mrs Ashurst concludes: “I was particularly pleased to read that the inspectors noted how the children all thrive and are warmly welcomed into an inspirational and nurturing child-centred environment.”
