Go Ahead for Vigo Infant and Junior Schools’ AmalgamationVigo Infant and Junior Schools will operate as one school from September 2016, following agreement from Hampshire County Council.

The decision was made by the Council’s Executive Member for Education, Councillor Peter Edgar, taking account of the views from parents, staff, governors and local residents.

Councillor Edgar said: “The move to bring the two schools together was initiated by the Chair of Governors of each school following an Ofsted inspection of the junior school, and in order to address underperformance at the junior school.

“I have visited the schools’ site and the learning facilities are excellent. The partnership between the school communities and, in turn, that between the schools and the County Council works extremely well. I am confident that this is the right decision and I wish the new, all through primary school, every success. I am sure that this will have a really positive impact on the educational outcomes for pupils right across the school.”

The decision to amalgamate the two schools has the full support of each school’s governing body. In their view the interests of pupils will be best served through an all-through primary school approach.

Operating as a single school will start on 1 September 2016. A single leadership team and governing body will lead and manage the school in its delivery of primary education at both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
