The owners of a new local flooring company are celebrating receiving a four-figure grant boost from Test Valley Borough Council.

Mykola Romanyuk and his colleague, Maciej Rybitwa, received the council’s £1,000 Independent Retailer Grant in recognition of their hard work setting up Sunrise Flooring Solutions, which opened at 9 Union Street in July last year. They sell and fit all types of flooring including carpets, laminate flooring and solid wood.

Originally from the Ukraine, Mykola moved to Andover 13 years ago. He and Maciej, who is from Poland, also have a warehouse and showroom on Faraday Park, Portway West Business Park.

Mykola said: “We are very grateful to Test Valley Borough Council for the Independent Retailer Grant as well as expert advice and support we have received. It can be very daunting starting up your own business but there is a great deal of help on offer. We have invested a huge amount of time, effort and resource into getting the business off the ground, so we really appreciate the £1,000 grant from the council.”

Andover St Mary’s ward member, Councillor David Denny, presented the cheque to Sunrise Flooring Solutions. He said: “It is clear just how hard Mykola and Maciej have worked to set up their new business. And the fact that it is already proving a success is a credit to them. I wish them all the best with Sunrise Flooring Solutions and look forward to watching it go from strength to strength.”

Recipients of the £1,000 grant will receive £500 after three months of trading and a further £500 six months later. To be eligible for the grant, new or existing independent businesses must occupy a town centre ground floor unit which has been vacant for at least one month. Qualifying businesses include shops, restaurants and cafes.
