Falcons Fete @ Andover Rugby Club

Charlie Robinson from Stringbrokers Meets Peppa Pig!

We decided to go to the Falcon’s Fete to have a look at the local musical talent and to see the local businesses that had supported the event, we pulled up and were concerned we were in the wrong place as it looked and sounded quite quiet as we pulled into the road off the roundabout, but as we pulled into the Andover Rugby Club carpark, there were quite a few cars and we could hear some lovely tunes floating through the air.

As we got out of the car, we were met by 3 young girls selling raffle tickets who were very polite and efficient, whoever these three belong to – they are a credit to you!

We walked into the field to be initlally confronted by Hampshire bakers, yummy BBQ food and the Travelling Cupcake who seem to be everywhere at the moment as I was told by a little birdy (Twitter) that they were also at The Charlton Family Day today. Greg was manning the Falcon’s stall with his gorgeous young daughter whose face was a mixture of face paint and chocolate, a replica of her Mum (perhaps the face paint would be replaced by Flour on the lovely Bev) and completely well behaved for the time we were there – what a lovely industrious family.

We walked past still floating on the notes cascading through the air courtesy of the fantastic James Mitchell who was solo gigging today, completely competent and in control of his art, what a joy to listen to.

We walked on through past face painting, Peppa Pig and stopped at Louise Salter who runs Forever Living products – made of Aloe Vera that interestingly is not only good for us humans but our Pet friends too. I will definitely be in touch with Louise to explore the benefits to us all more.

We moved on again and stopped at the Natural Therapy Clinic and whilst James had a free Spinal Check from Chiropractor John Booth, I spoke to Siobhan Lovatt who is a hypnotherapist. The duo are based at Basepoint Business Park and we are already set to go and find out more about their business.

I wandered over to see a Ryan Gosling look a like teaching 5 year old Joshua Kick Boxing. Joshua was so good following his Ryanesque instructor, he was jabbing and crossing like a pro – well done Joshua, I hope you take this up full time and I will see you in 15 years time competing for our country!

We stopped at Su Porter’s stand with fabulous homemade cushion covers, bags, pencil cases and many other arty crafty bits and bought a very reasonably priced cushion (£7) – my other half tells me we have enough cushions, but if you are a girl – you know that just can’t be true!

We then moved over to where the biggest crowd was, having just missed the competing rowing machines, we turned up as the competitors for the Falcon’s Fitness Challenge were lifting weights – BIG weights! I was astounded by how much they were lifting, the first guy seemed to be the best at it and lifted so many reps, hats off to them all, what strength.

We came all the way back around to the beginning where James Mitchell had finished performing and Hatty Snooks was preparing to step up to the Mic, I really like the tone of her voice and I believe she is a talent to watch in this town.

David Gunner was the coolest rock man I have seen in a local band for sometime, doing his soundcheck with a ‘fro, beer and a cigarette in the corner of his mouth, a great personality and potential frontman for a rock group that’s destined for greatness.

Guitarist William Jacob was competent and accomplished, his guitar playing was great and the songs sung that he had written were funky and different with words and melody that are original.

What a great family day out this is, I think its a shame that there weren’t more people there and I hope the Falcons will let me help them raise the awareness of this fab event to Andover next year.
