Explore, Have-a-go and Enjoy the Great Outdoors at Sparsholt College’s Countryside DayLooking for the ideal family day out? If have-a-go activities, entertainment, animal displays, foodie treats and a spot of retail therapy sound like the perfect day out then Sparsholt College’s Countryside Day is just the ticket. The beautiful campus will be open on Saturday 16 May 2015, 9.30am until 5.00pm for visitors to experience first-hand the great outdoors, whether that’s practicing your casting on the College lake, trying your hand at clay and air rifle shooting or being hoisted up a tree by arboriculture students.

The Equine Centre will be offering pony rides, jumping displays and natural horsemanship demonstrations and the renowned Horticulture Department will have plant sales, the two hour garden challenge and the famous BBC Radio 4 Gardener’s Question Time garden and potting shed will be open. A one-off this year will be free beer sampling courtesy of Wadworth brewery who are sponsoring the College’s garden for RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2015.

There’s have-a-go wheelchair basketball, assault course and climbing wall at the ever popular Sport Department. Enjoy the thrill of watching forestry and arboriculture students as they demonstrate their climbing skills, tackling the 45 foot pole and if duly inspired there’s have-a-go tree climbing.

Naturally as a working farm there will be milking displays, sheep shearing displays and the pig unit will be open. Machine enthusiasts will also get to enjoy the large displays of agricultural and forestry machinery.

The Fish, Conservation and Game department will get you having a go at clay pigeon shooting, angling and casting. Fish enthusiasts can even have their picture taken with Nemo in the National Aquatics Training Centre and those will little ones will enjoy the hide and seek games and kid’s paddling pool fishing game.

Over in the zoo licenced Animal Management Centre, there are over 1200 animals from almost 400 species, including the largest college reptile collection in the country. Students will be showing their skills and knowledge with various presentations and demonstrations.
