Elderly man assaulted in AndoverPolice are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was assaulted. The incident happened in George Yard, Andover between 5am and 6am on Sunday, February 1.

The victim, a 79-year-old man, sustained a cut to his face after being punched by an offender while loading newspapers into his vehicle. During the assault he fell to the ground, further injuring his hand.

The man was later taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment for his injuries.

The offender is described as a white man, about 5ft 10ins tall, aged in his early 20s, of a slim build and clean shaven. He was wearing a dark top and possibly dark trousers.

PC Michael Higgins from Basingstoke CID said: “This is a very nasty and particularly disturbing attack on an elderly man.

“We are appealing for any witnesses who might have seen the assault taking to place, to help us identify the offender.”
