Earlier this year, Andover’s Lidl car park reverted from a TVBC operated ‘Pay and Display’ car park, to a free ‘perk’ for patrons of Lidl supermarket.
The car park is now managed by LDK Security Group Ltd, who also list snow clearance, gritting and landscaping as available services on their website.
Over the last week, customers have reported an LDK employed attendant watching Lidl patrons leave the store, load their shopping into their car and move on to shop in the town centre, returning to a £45 fine.
Signs in the car park state that customers may not leave the premises at any time, whilst their vehicle is parked in the car park.
Local Mum Samantha told Andover & Villages, “I received a ticket after shopping in Lidl and moving on elsewhere within the free 90 minutes.
“The car park patrol man watched me leave, so in essence he trapped me rather than advising me. I suspect many people will be caught out. I complained to the store manager and will be appealing against the ticket. Bring back the charges I say!!”
A Lidl spokesperson told Andover & Villages, “We were extremely concerned by the customer feedback provided and will be investigating this as a priority.
“Whilst our Andover store was previously subject to pay and display, we have made the decision to introduce a new parking system that will make the car park free for all Lidl customers to use for up to 90 minutes.
“The car park is currently being monitored by an external parking attendant, to manage the availability of parking spaces for customers. We encourage any genuine customers who have incorrectly received a parking fine to appeal the fine directly or contact our customer services team who will provide assistance.”
