Leading Hampshire-based disability charity Enham Trust’s Shining Stars initiative has been awarded £1000 from the Alamein Councillors Community Grant.
An innovative activity group providing intensive support for children and young people with disabilities, aged between 8 & 18, Shining Stars allows participants to interact with peers, play, and learn within a safe and supportive environment.
Endorsed by Alamein Ward’s Cllr Phil North, the funds received from Test Valley Borough Council will ensure the project can increase the amount of children it is able to support, as well as the range of activities it is able to offer.
Cllr Phil North said:
“Shining Stars at Enham Trust is an excellent organisation, giving children with disabilities innovative and tailored learning support in a fun atmosphere. I was delighted to be able to support this group, joining my Alamein colleagues to present them with a cheque for £1,000 from our Councillors Community Budget.”
Set up at the request of, and with involvement from, local parents, every Shining Stars session is tailored to the needs of the individual children who attend, in keeping with the Trust’s principles of personalisation through Person Centred Planning; each child being supported by a key worker to make independent choices through play.
Enham Trust supports over 7,500 disabled and disadvantaged people across the country to live lives of choice, control, and independence.
