The Hampshire County Council flag flies at half mast today (Thursday 23rd March 2017) in an expression of sympathy and solidarity following yesterday’s attack in Westminster.
Staff and Councillors also joined Whitehall Government buildings in observing a minute’s silence this morning.
Leader of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Roy Perry said: “I frequently visit Parliament, and was there on Tuesday this week for a conference – just yards from where this dreadful incident happened, which makes it clear how vulnerable anyone is at all times. I am always impressed by the stringent security at Parliament, but I am afraid it is the world we live in, and as we know, these events have happened in Brussels, Paris, Istanbul, and now London.
“It is important we are all vigilant, take care of our own security and respect the bravery of police who are so vulnerable, keeping us as safe as possible. We must however, do our best to carry on and not let people of bad will, whoever they are, stop our open democratic way of life. My thoughts are with the innocent victims and their families.”
