Test Valley Borough Council has awarded Christopher Vowles of Artisan Dairy Ltd with a £500 Business Incentive Grant.

Based at Chilbolton Down Farm, near Stockbridge, Artisan Dairy Ltd produces fresh, quality cheese, butter, milk, ice cream and yoghurt using locally sourced products. The company opened for business in February and owner Christopher Vowles has already established contracts with local shops as well as larger chains. He said: ““It’s been a busy time getting everything ready for business but I am fortunate to have a lot of experience in the industry as I am now the third generation cheese maker in my family. I’d like to thank Test Valley Borough Council for the grant as it has helped me expand my ever-increasing range of delicious cheeses, including our new cheese and cracker kits which are proving to be popular!”

Broughton and Stockbridge ward member, Councillor Peter Boulton, said: “Artisan Dairy is Test Valley’s only cheese making company so we are really pleased that Christopher has opened the business. He has worked really hard to get the business off the ground and his efforts are paying off. I’d like to wish him the best of luck with the business and we look forward to seeing the business continue to thrive.”

The Council’s Business Incentive Grants are available to anyone looking to set up their own business in Test Valley. Budding entrepreneurs should apply for the grant before they start their company and if it is still going strong six months later, they will receive the cheque.
