Convenience Stores Creating Hundreds of Jobs in North West Hampshire

• Region beats South East average with 79 convenience stores employing 625 staff in total

• More than half the jobs are for women

North West Hampshire has 79 convenience stores, employing 625 staff in total, according to the latest figures obtained by Kit Malthouse MP.

Of these staff:

– 393 are women

– 135 are aged 16-24

– 71 jobs are for those aged over 60

This beats the South East constituency average of 74 stores and 589 jobs created.

Kit Malthouse MP said: “We all depend on our convenience stores. Not only are they providing a vital service to people, but here in North West Hampshire they are creating hundreds of jobs – in fact they are beating the South East constituency average. We need to do everything we can to help them thrive and create even more jobs. The way to do that is by slashing both taxes and red tape on businesses and I’ll make sure my colleagues in Government push full steam ahead.”

Vip Panchmatia owns Hexagon Stores and Post Office in Andover: “We’ve been at the heart of the community for the past ten years, and five years ago we doubled in size. I employ 14 people currently, and I hope to expand even further if the conditions are right for us. One big thing for me is business rates. We shouldn’t be a target for rates increases, at the end of the day we are a business serving the community, creating jobs and making ends meet.”
