A team of four Andover office workers swapped their desks for gloves, bin bags and litter pickers to support Test Valley Borough Council’s Love Where You Live campaign earlier this month.
Employees from backup power company shentongroup, based at Walworth Business Park, filled eight large sacks with rubbish collected from around the business park on 1 October as part of the company’s drive to improve its local environment. The litter pick was the first of a series of monthly commitments with the Council which will see employees take time away from the office to care for the environment.
Jody Meek, shentongroup Managing Director said: “At shentongroup we value and acknowledge the endless hours our team commits to the business. All those early morning starts and late night finishes help to drive the business to new heights. But it can’t all be one way traffic; we decided we need to give something back to the community that provides our team. That’s why we decided to take part in the local ‘Love Where You Live’ initiative, as a way of giving something back to the community, improving the environment of all our locals and to somehow, in some small way, show our appreciation for all the community has given to us.”
Environmental Services Portfolio Holder, Councillor Graham Stallard, said: “I’d like to thank the staff from shentongroup for giving up some of their busy working day to support the Love Where You Live campaign. It’s great to see a local business taking an active role in caring for the environment and setting an example to the public. We look forward to working with the company to carry out more litter picking work over the coming months.”
