The Met Office has announced a Cold Weather Alert covering 8am Friday 16th January through to Noon Tuesday 20th January.
The South has been given a Level 2 alert, which is issued as soon as the risk is 60% or above for any of the weather thresholds to be breached.
A Level 2 cold weather alert, is an important stage for social and healthcare services, who will be working to ensure readiness and swift action to reduce harm from a potential period of cold weather.
Prolonged periods of cold weather can be dangerous, especially for the very young, very old or those with chronic diseases, the public are advised to be mindful of those around them that may be at risk.
