The Princess Royal Trust for Carers in Hampshire is one of hundreds of groups across the UK who take part in Carers Rights Day, a national awareness day organised by Carers UK. The aim of the day is to inform carers of their rights, benefits and services they are entitled to – including a special focus on getting ready for new rights with big legal changes in the Care Act 2014. Information will also be available on carer’s allowance, short breaks to recharge their batteries and technology like telecare to give them peace of mind when they are out of the house.

Kerry Hearsey, Chief Executive of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers in Hampshire said: “There are 6.5 million carers in the UK today. That’s 1 in 8 adults. This unpaid care saves the state £119 billion a year. We are holding events across Hampshire to help the estimated 134,000 carers in Hampshire know their rights and find out how to get the help and support they are entitled to. Having the right information at the right time can make a huge difference when you are looking after someone. Many carers struggle to navigate the maze of services and entitlements and miss out on financial and practical support. Our events include: Making carers aware of their rights Letting carers know where to get help and support Raising awareness of the needs of the carers.

Carers UK have produced an information booklet for carers who want information about their entitlements called Looking After Someone? – A guide to carers’ rights and benefits.

Carers can order copies of the booklets by:
