Local News | Car Thieves up to New Watery Tricks | Andover & VillagesPolice are warning the public of a scam by car thieves that utilises plastic water bottles.

Thieves are placing empty plastic bottles between the wheel arch and tyre of cars, when drivers start the engine and move away, the bottle is crushed and makes a very loud noise.

Drivers leave the car to check on the noise, often leaving the car running with the keys in the ignition, which is when the thieves take the opportunity to leap into the car and steal it.

Police advise that if you hear such a noise, to always turn the car’s ignition off and take the keys with you before checking.
