The Secret History of Burlesque Andover

Lady May J, a burlesque performer from Andover, will pop on special ‘’poppy’’ suspenders and perform support of a local charity, Andover M.E. & Fibromyalgia group.

The show ‘’Boo Burlesque’’ will take place on the 20th October in the Hayward Suite on Dene Road in Andover and is a fantastic collaboration of the performer, charity and business community. Lady May J will wear an innovative ‘’poppy’’ suspender belt that attaches to the stockings easily and quickly, replacing traditional fastening, which makes it easier for women to wear suspenders with stockings. This gear and some other saucy items are donated by a British lingerie brand Ella Vine, and fundraising on the night will support Andover M.E. & Fibromyalgia group.

This is to raise funds and awareness of the painful but still yet not well understood condition fibromyalgia, which one in 20 people live with. This is the condition which took Lady Gaga off the stage and which keeps many people bed and house bound.

Ella Vine, the brain behind the lingerie brand and the inventor of the poppy suspenders, who lives with M.E. & fibromyalgia herself, said: ‘’I’m proud to be able to support this fantastic case and very grateful to Lady May J for kindly holding the flag for all of us sufferers. People who live with chronic conditions, such as fibromyalgia, find the new fastening very helpful, which allows them to wear nice lingerie again’’.

The ‘’Boo Burlesque’’ is a co-production between Lady May J and Norte Promotions Limited run by Nancy Norte and Russ Ellingham.
