Andover Clubs Help Raise Funds for London Marathon Runner’s CharityThe 20th Andover Guides and 9th Andover Brownies last week raised an impressive £450 towards leader Shell Smith’s mammoth marathon challenge for Enham Trust.

Holding sponsored fitness tasks and a popular quiz night attended by over 60 local people, the Andover Guides and Andover Brownies showed support, not only for their courageous leader, but also for a deserving local cause – leading disability charity Enham Trust.

For Shell, who originally took up running in 2012 as a means of coping with depression, facing the 26.2 mile run marks the completion of an emotional journey. “I know it sounds clichéd,” she says, “but if you told me back then I would be training for a marathon now I really wouldn’t believe it.”

Shell is running the upcoming London Marathon on behalf of Enham Trust with her brother, Cllr Phil North, who has been an active supporter of the charity for many years.

Talking of her reasons for supporting the charity in this way, Shell comments, “I’ve chosen to run for the Enham Trust as my family have had connections there for many years and they provide such a worthwhile service to disabled adults, living independently thanks to their support. Last year my mum and my brother both ran the London Marathon for the Enham Trust and they’ve really inspired me to do the same. As well as raising money I hope I can inspire others to try running, too!”

Enham Trust, based near Andover, Hampshire, supports over 7,500 disabled and disadvantaged people across the country to live lives of choice; helping them to gaining independence in every aspect of their lives.
