Be Wiser Launch DegreeTeachers and students from across Hampshire attended the launch of the Be Wiser Insurance degree programme at The Lights in Andover recently.

The event was opened by Be Wiser CEO and Chairman Mark Bower-Dyke who said, “We are making history here today with the first BA Hons degree programme to be developed by an insurance company.” The low cost, BA (Hons) Insurance degree programme will cost students £9,000 over three years, compared to the traditional University route that can cost more than £60,000 for three years.

“Your career will start from day one,” Crescens George, Director of Learning and Development at Be Wiser told the audience. “This gives young people the opportunity to start their working life without the ties and worry of a substantial debt.”

The degree course will mean students earn as they learn with a starting salary of £18,000. They will work at Be Wiser Insurance for 32 hours a week, gaining experience in a range of different roles and departments. One day a week will be spent at Peter Symonds College in Winchester who will deliver the programme where they will also have time allocated for self directed study.

Also speaking at the launch of the degree were Matt Clatworthy, UK Sales Director from Compass London Markets and Mark Wright, winner of the 2014 BBC series The Apprentice.

“The insurance industry is essential to society as we allow the world to trade,” Matt Clatworthy told the audience. He went on to explain that there are many jobs within insurance including brokers to underwriters and risk managers to loss adjusters.

“The good thing about the insurance industry is you have to know what the rest of the industry is doing. You are the cornerstone of every new technology and every new industry.” Mark Wright, winner of the 2014 BBC series The Apprentice, entertained the audience with his journey into business and winning the national TV series.

“I wish there was something like this when I was at school” he said. “It’s good to have someone to guide you for the future. The main thing I have learnt is that if you want to earn more you have to learn more.”

The BA (Hons) Insurance degree programme will start in September. Entry requirements are 160 UCAS points and a job interview. For further information go to www.psc.ac.uk/ace or contact Be Wiser Insurance on 01264 748181.
