Andover and the Villages are full of women who have carved businesses out for themselves in all manner of areas, and there is an organisation that is in place for them all to come together, support each other, do business with each other and also to relax and socialise.

I was invited to attend the January meeting by Sue Risdale, who is President of Andover Women in Business. The meeting was to be held at The Star & Garter, the day after its opening, and so I was excited to not only meet lots of local business women, but also to see what Citylodge had managed to do with the old Danebury Hotel, a place where I spent many nights drinking with my friends in my latter teenage years.

I arrived and was so pleased to see that part of the £1 million refurbishment had included the car park and the entrance to the rear of the building, clearly marked spaces made parking easy and the entrance was beautifully lit.

The lovely Jane from Andover Buffets had laid on a beautiful buffet, full of savoury and sweet treats. It smelled absolutely delicious and was devoured by the massive attendance of local business women. Members were encouraged to buy drinks from the swish new bar area and the wine flowed along with the more sobering tea and coffee, which was served by lovely polite young waiters and waitresses.

It was great to see such a vast difference in local Andover women attending, from the young confident attendees to the more wizened and experienced long time members. The speaker for the night was member Larch Gould, who runs Virtual Support Services, and was asked by Andover Women in Business to create a new website and identity for them. Larch brought along the new website on her laptop and with the help of Brenda Locke, from Datacounts, demonstrated the new design on a projector screen at the back of the room. The new design and logo is fresh and exciting and really does bring Andover Women in Business into the modern world. Larch also told the room of the impending launch of the AWIB Twitter Page.

Andover Women in Business is a great resource for any local Andover and Village area-based women who either own or work in business. The meetings are informal and a great opportunity to meet like minded people, whilst having a drink and something to eat.

I understand that the Ladies will be returning to The Star and Garter in Andover High Street next month. For more information, please do visit the website or Facebook page:
