The White Hart at Penton put on a fantastic ‘Bear-B-Q’ today (Saturday), in aid of Help for Heroes, which launched the great way of fundraising last year, turning BBQ’s across the country into Bear-B-Q’s, using their mascot ‘Hero Bear’ as inspiration!
The weather stayed absolutely beautiful for the event, and was well attended, with lots of music provided throughout the day and into the night, including a set by local Andover & Villages favourites, One Last Thrill.
Also laid on by the White Hart team was an adorable petting zoo, courtesy of Feathers, Fangs and Furries, who were there for free to do their bit for the Help for Heroes charity. The FFF team brought with them, a corn snake, a barn owl, guniea pigs, a pygmy hedgehog and a chameleon. The children at the event absolutely loved touching and holding all of the different creatures.
Landlord and Landlady, Mark & Ellie, who have been resident in the pub since last November, hosted the event after a leaflet came through the door informing them of the Bear-B-Q incentive. With two villagers, Ian and Clare, that work for the Help for Heroes charity on hand to assist, the decision was made to host an event.
Hero the Bear proved popular and mingled during his appearance in the afternoon, making sure he got his ‘beary’ beautiful smile in lots of pictures, and also doing some dancing to the disco being run by local, Ian Robin, who also helped organise the day.
Clare told Andover & Villages, “It’s a great charity and there are lots of people in this area who support Help for Heroes and so with help from Ian, Ian and Clare, we decided to go ahead and put on a party for the village.”
It was a fantastic day for everyone involved and Andover & Villages is sure that a large amount of money was raised.
