Andover Town Youth Council Attend Hampshire Youth Conference

The Hampshire Youth Conference was run by Lynne Meechan, the Hampshire Youth Voice Representative and the Youth Parliament at the Ashburton Hall Elizabeth II Court, HCC Winchester on the 21st of October. A member of the Andover Town Youth Council, Theo said “it was a really great experience for me, I have learnt so much from it and I’m glad I attended”.

Forming part of the Local Democracy week 2014, the conference gave everyone the opportunity of hands on education on the subject of Democracy. The event was aimed at young people aged 11-25 and primarily for youth representatives. The conference included; a committee meeting so that everyone who attended learnt about the council and understood how choices were made, a tour around the council buildings, the opportunity to debate current issues and details of how they personally could influence the decision making process.

The conference was a great opportunity for one of our very own Andover Youth Councillors, who now has a great experience to share with the Andover Youth Council, and who can help the group improve further. Not only will Theo’s experience be able to help the Andover Youth Council in what they decide to do next, but it will also strengthen The Andover Youth Council and the Youth parliament’s relationship which is a great opportunity for Andover as a whole.
